what can cause the left side of my face, jaw, gums and neck to swell and be sore.

It could be a sinus infection or an infected tooth. Have you been to a dentist? Usually when the upper molars are sore, especially when you are chewing, this can be a sign of an impending sinus infection. If the pain seems to radiate down your neck I would see a dentist.
