Cilie Yack's Sous Club offers a Free Food Allergy Shopping Guide for Families
Use it to help you find Allergy safe products while you shop
Volunteers at Cilie Yack's Sous Club for Kids, Inc. have been working tirelessly to provide allergy sufferers a comprehensive guidebook on the top ten food allergens. The material provided in the club's official Food Allergy Shopping Guide will assist club families participating in the upcoming support group programs in 2011. But this book is also a valuable tool for any family dealing with mulitple food allergies. The book offers a compiled list of common food ingredients and derivatives and their possible food sources. It also teaches consumers a little bit about allergy shopping and some possible pitfalls allergy sufferers may fall into.
The Cilie Yack's Sous Club list is by no means a complete list, but it is the most extensive one allergy consumers will find to date online. Volunteer researchers have combed several online sources, done additional research, consulted experts, and in turn completed a more thorough listing as a result. Please use the list as a guide when purchasing foods for the club. It is also a great learning tool for families just starting out.
Laws in the United States prohibit the use of ingredients containing the top eight allergens without specific allergen labeling on product packages. This law does not apply to meats or to products containing corn derivatives. For this reason alone it is necessary that all allergy sufferers educate themselves about ingredients and derivatives. Meat is controlled by the USDA and does NOT restrict packers with labeling laws.
Patents and formulas are constantly changing. There may be additional derivatives since this printing. Please contact the manufacturer to verify a food is allergen free if you have any doubt or suspicions.
