And breath... Finally, I can relax. My shoulder’s (which now have a permanent hunch from my incessant Google searching) can now lower into a more human pose. I can now, from this moment forward, vow to be a more present and nicer human being because...
WE GOT THE 504!!!
I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!!!
Oh sweet success you taste so...err...sweet!
We had our meeting with the school on Thursday and my son was found eligible for a 504. We immediately wrote out the accommodations, signed the forms and it’s official!
Strangely, now that I’m finished working on my “2009 Campaign for Equality” I really don’t know what to do with all this spare time. I suddenly miss learning something new each day about federal regulations and how they protect my food allergic child. Re-reading the ADA Amendment of 2008 became a comforting bedtime ritual for me (as I chanted - “He deserves a 504 because he is eligible - end of story...He deserves a 504 because he is eligible - end of story...”). I found purpose in proactively working to protect my son and his right to a Free Appropriate Public Education.
And I think my husband will now miss laughing at me each time he heard me hum “Gonna Fly Now” as I Googled. (Come on - you remember the song. When Rocky was training hard for the fight and he ends his workout on the top of the steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, arms spread wide like a champion. Click the arrow below to jog your memory.)
Next blog, I will publish all the the sites and documents I read and created for our 504 meeting for anyone to use. But, right now I’m going to snuggle into bed with my dog-eared copy of the ADA Amendment and drift off to sleep, for old times sake.
