Disney is a food allergic-dining dream-come true. Because we live in Florida we eat at Disney often. For my birthday (29 again - 7 years and running...) my husband and son took me to the Hoop-Dee-Doo Review at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.
A month before the show my husband called the Disney dining number (407-WDW-DINE) to make the reservation and noted that our son has food allergies.
My husband received a phone call from the chef a few days before our reservation. The chef explained to my husband that all the food is made from scratch in the dining hall kitchen. When my husband inquired about cross contamination and revealed our fear of baked goods (corn bread and strawberry shortcake are part of the menu) he was told that they prepare no foods that contain nuts in the kitchen. All the food served during the show is safe for peanut and tree nut allergies.
When we arrived at the show a chef came to our table. He spoke directly to our son and assured him that he could eat all the food he was served. We enjoyed buckets of salad, fried chicken, ribs, cornbread and strawberry shortcake. It was delicious!
My son ate everything with no problems, laughed like a maniac at the show and declared it “Mom’s best birthday ever!”
