A 70 year old male with fever, diarrhea, intestinal cramps and sore throat. Blood cultures were neg for bacteria, but stool cultures isolated a gram positive, rod-shaped bacterium. Patient consumed a ripened farm cheese brought back from Mexico. Sample of the cheese wsa sent to the labaratory, further culturing revelaed the same type of bacterium and that this microbe grew best at 4 degress celcius rather than 37 degrees celcius.
I need to know the possible diagnosis. I was thinking food poisoning or leptospirosis. Please provide help with the diagnosis.
