Treat Your Brain Well – Help With Alcoholism, Drug Addiction and SHDD Recovery

Understanding alcoholism or drug addiction as brain diseases and that substance abuse (of drugs or alcohol) causes chemical and structural changes in the brain is one thing. Understanding what it means to “treat your brain well” and the role that doing so can play in helping with alcoholism, drug addiction and SHDD (secondhand drinking/drugging) recovery is another piece to the puzzle.
While Shirley DeAcetis article, “ Remember: Treat Brain Well to Aid in Memory ,” appearing in The Modesto Bee, focuses on the benefits to memory of taking care of the brain, all of what she says is true for trying to heal / change the brain that has been subjected to substance abuse, addiction and long-term SHDD.
