My other car is a yoga mat is actually the title of this column I occasionally read whenever a copy of LA Yoga is laying around my gym. I loved reading someone else's experience of yoga as spiritual practice and discipline. My favorite line from that column was "Practice makes practice," rather than practice makes perfect. It's just like the line we read in every meeting, "We claim spiritual progress rather than spiritual perfection."
Tonight I returned to yoga for the first time in months. Last semester I went at least once, if not 2 or 3 times a week and LOVED it. Then, I was out of town, sick, etc. and somehow missing one class turned into 2 turned into almost 3 months.
Of course, being a good alcoholic and prone to the erroneous belief and if some is good, more is better, I decided to climb for 2 hours and then do a 1.5 hr yoga class. Needless to say, I'm quite tuckered out.
Not at all coincidentally, I found that my balance was way off in class. I haven't lost much of my strength or flexibility but I was so wobbly I kept worry about toppling over and taking out the whole middle row of students (it was a packed! class). My lesson of the day was that I need to get my butt back into a daily, disciplined practiced and perhaps some balance might be restored.
