I published an ezine article several days ago called, “Alcoholic Mother: An Alcoholic Family Nightmare”. I discussed the effects of growing up in a tense and chaotic environment with an alcoholic mother.

Do you wonder what happens to children in an alcoholic family where they are unable to rely on an alcoholic parent? They are forced to take on responsibilities not appropriate for their age and tend to become caretakers. In the article, I give a case history of a young alcoholic mother I treated in my practice and discuss how the children’s needs are not met. Th alcoholic parent is unable to pick her children up from school, help with homework, or fix their meals. I point out that the effects of an alcoholic family on a child are life-long. Many children from an alcoholic family become people pleasers, go on to marry an alcoholic husband or alcoholic wife, have a much higher rate of showing alcoholism addiction themselves, and have anger and self esteem issues.
