The China Youth Daily took a survey about drug problems. 2031 people responded. 73% listed celebrities as being at the highest risk for drug abuse and addiction. 56% were in favor of harsher punishments, such as a ban, on celebrities with drub abuse symptoms because of their negative influence on society.

How many drug addicts are listed in the drug registry in China?
1.2 million are registered in the Office of China National Control Commission data base. The deputy director of the Beijing Anti-Doping Committee thinks celebrities with drug problems are bringing a “dangerous ” message to young people.
It’s no different in the United States. Think about the celebrities in trouble with alcoholism and drug addiction that we hear about in the news: Michael Jackson, David Hasselhoff, Brittany Spears, and Eminem to name a few. Look at Tiger Woods in rehab for sex addiction.
Maybe this China survey is on to something. Should we put temporary bans on celebrities until they are in recovery at which time the ban would be lifted? Many of our youth look up to celebrities and want to model themselves after them. Doesn’t drug or alcohol abuse in these celebrity role models give the wrong message to our youth? It’s something to consider. Maybe our society should treat celebrity addicts with tough love for a change!
