anger

Posted by searching

My brother has just recently came out of rehab, which I put him in, he is now going through anger and he is directing it all at me.  I have bi-polar disorder along with a series of other mental illnesses that make it very hard for me to cope with his anger towards me.  How do I handle this anger with all my illnesses and is this anger normal, I know I am the closest person to him, but I am not able to handle it.  How do I deal with it and is a normal things for all recovering alcholics to go through?

I'm so sorry for what you are going through. On my blog, breakingthecycles.com, I have a category, "help for families," that might help. Additionally, my book, If You Loved Me, You'd Stop! What You Need To Know When Your Loved One Drinks Too Much, is written to help family members understand what has happened to their alcoholic loved one, to them, personally, and what they can do about all of it (you can order it from amazon or a link from the website.) Further, AlAnon is a free, 12-step program to help family members of alcoholics get the help they need. You can look at the website, www.al-anon.alateen.org, for a meeting near you.
