At first I was told it was thrush from steroid medications for arthritis but it is not white and I have had it for several months and 2 bottles of swish and swallow has not helped also somtimes I have strings of slimey substance that line the inside of my mouth that I can putt out with a kleenex and sores or blisters on my tongue.
More likely than not, overgrowth of the little bumps on the tongue's surface has led to the discoloration. The sores & blisters are more concerning for an (auto)immune disorder. I suggest that you see your dentist for proper diagnosis. Good luck!
