Woke up at 3 a.m. with incredibly painful "spasms" in the top of my foot. There is a red (sort of elliptical), swollen area, and the skin is hypersensitive to touch. I can't even bear the weight of a tissue on it. The terrible "shocks" feel like a red hot poker is touching the top of my foot and the nerves beneath the skin and they continue to occur every few minutes. I can hardly bear the sudden searing pain, although it is short-lived. I am a 71-year-old female, in good health, with type II diabetes which is in excellent control (thru diet). I do have peripheral neuropathy, but this is nothing like the annoyance of PN.
