Low sodium or hyponatremia is not as rare as one would believe and the consequences are grave. However, the solution is not as simple as eating salty foods. For starters, one has to determine whether it's due to too much fluid or not enough in order to narrow down the many reasons for this condition. The treatment needs to address the cause, not just raise the low salt. Furthermore, we can't quickly raise someone's sodium (salt) level since that can also bring bring about dire results. Therefore, it's imperative that you work with your family physician and nephrologist to get to the bottom of this. Good luck!
