training program.
Because of my schedule and the weather, I have been doing this on the treadmill at the gym. If you know me, you know that I am not a gym person - I would much rather exercise outdoors and always do when I can. This morning, I was up very eary, so I decided to take my Couch to 5K outside. Was it more difficult? Indeed. Did I burn more calories? Oh yes: 440 vs. 320 on average. I'll take it!
Having said that, I only made it through the first 30 minutes, while on the treadmill, I make it though the full 41 minutes. I have high expectations of myself, so I was a bit disappointed. I reflected on the walk home:
1. So, I didn't make it through. Is it a big deal? No.
2. Just a few short months ago, I was only doing the couch part.
3. It may take me all year to make it to the 5K part. I am not trying out for the Olympic track team, so this is not a problem.
4. The only living things that crossed my path that early in the morning truly didn't even care if I was completing my scheduled walk/jog or not. There were a few cars, some cyclists, a couple walking, lizards, bugs, birds, and a handful of golfers.
5. There are a lot of amazing birds that hang out in my neighborhood, and I should find out what they are.
6. People who do not wake up early to use precious time to exercise feel very free to interrupt those who do. A car pulled up to me and started screaming - becuase we didn't speak the same language - "EDEN MANOR?! EDEN MANOR?!" I did my best to give a general direction in the fastest way possible. Just then, I noticed a police car turning around and slowly approaching the car from behind. I felt comfort in that.
7. There is a part of my walking path where I need to speed it up a bit to avoid risking being hit by a golf ball.
