First things first.  Never perform a test just because you can.  Do a test because the answer will affect what you decide to do next.  In other words, why did you have the sputum test done in the first place?  Typically we only order this if we concerned about an infection, eg pneumonia.  Once we isolate the specific organisim causing the infection, we can then prescribe the specific antibiotic to treat it and clear you of the infection.

I must admit that I've never heard of Pseudomonas putide (or is it putida?).  How rare is it?  Well, it appears to be a fairly common organism that's been found in soil & fresh water to be able to breakdown chemicals that are harmful to you & me.  It's also been patented, of all things!

The appropriate antibiotic depends upon what your lab discovered as to its sensitivities.  Truly, this is one of the issues that need to addressed with/by the person who ordered this test for you.  Good luck!
