We "seasoned" adults tend to have physical issues that are somewhat unique, even if we are in good health generally. One of those issues for me is frequent nosebleeds. I never had a problem with my nose as a young person, but the issue has become more frequent as I have aged. I have had several doctors involved, but the only factor they discuss is that the skin becomes thinner and, in a dry climate, tends to open with slight pressure. I wake up sometimes with a nosebleed that is very difficult to stop.
I spoke with a friend who is an EMT and he said that they even have 911 calls for folks with nosebleeds that are severe. He suggested that I buy some Quikclot, which is a gauze pad that is impregnated with Kaolin, a substance that causes blood clotting. I have used Quikclot as part of my first aid kit for some time, but had not considered it for nosebleeds. It turns out that they actually have a product that is designed for that use. Not surprising, they call it "Quikclot Nosebleed". I have used it a few times now and it really works! You simply roll the gauze into a tube, insert it in the nostril and pinch for a couple of minutes and the bleeding is stopped.
