I suspect that they didn't find "spots on her lymph nodes" but rather spots that are lymph nodes.  It would be helpful to understand whether this spots where from physical exam or some sort of xray or CT scan.  However, more concerning is her significant weight loss.  That's typically never a good thing in the elderly, at least not when it's unintentional.  Unfortunately, this raises the spector of cancer, or at best an indolent infection, like tuberculosis.  An overactive thyroid could also lead to unintentional weight loss but it's not usually associated with swollen lymph nodes.  She needs to get evaluated as soon as possible to determine what's going on and what her options are.  At the same time, it would be a good idea to determine her wishes for advance care planning, living will, durable health care power of attorney, etc.  Good luck!
