Dolphins-Bills preview: C.J. Spiller gets prime-time chance to steal Buffalo's show Just how good has C.J. Spiller been when he has had the chance to handle the ball for the Buffalo Bills this season Spiller is eighth among NFL running backs with 929 yards from scrimmage, despite 87 carries and 115 total touches. In other words, even with limited work, Spiller is living up to his billing as the dynamic No. 9 overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft. With talented Bills backfield cohort Fred Jackson concussed and expected to miss his third game of 2012, Spiller can put his skills on full display in Thursday's home game against the Miami Dolphins (8:20 p.m. ET, NFL Network). Video: Fantasy Source Week 11 insights | Game preview | Linemakers Jackson was productive when healthy, but Spiller has been spectacular, with a league-record Woolrich Arctic Parka 7.3 per-carry average. The Dolphins present a big challenge

with their fifth-ranked run defense that held opponents Moncler Vestes Manteaux to 3.8 yards per carry. For that to give, the Bills must follow through on coach Chan Gailey's plan to give Spiller the ball as much as possible. The Bills don't need to go back too far in watching Dolphins film to see why Spiller can be effective with 25 to 30 more touches. Last week, Tennessee Titans back Chris Johnson burned the Dolphins for 136 yards on 23 carries. Johnson at 5-11, 191 pounds has similar size to Spiller, who is 5-11, 200, plus similar speed. It might be tempting, if the Dolphins slow Spiller early, to let quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick drop back often and throw around against the NFL's 28th-ranked pass defense. But that just puts a mistake-prone passer in position to be rattled by Cameron Wake and a strong pass rush. Those defenders will wear down from chasing Spiller and

allow a big run in the second half.Dolphins-Bills preview: To get Buffalo's offense going, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick should think run first, even against a limp pass defense. (AP Photo) Spiller also is the ticket to keep the Bills' league-worst run defense (163.7 yards per game, 5.5 yards per carry allowed) off the field as much as possible. They catch a bit of a break because veteran Reggie Bush, inconsistent and battling through fumbling issues, is at a crossroads as the Dolphins' feature back. Bush will become an unrestricted free agent in 2013, and early indication is that the Dolphins won't re-sign him. That makes it more important for them to take a longer look at their own talented young back, Daniel Thomas. Thomas, a 2011 second-round Moncler Giubbotti pick, has been pushing Bush for more playing time as both a runner and receiver out of the backfield. A good Bills matchup is a

great opportunity for Thomas, at 6-1, Doudoune Woolrich Homme 233 pounds, to prove he has a bright future as more than a goal-line or mop-up back. If the Bills get big plays from Spiller, complemented by smart play from Fitzpatrick, they can also protect their defense by building a big lead. As vulnerable as the Bills are against the run, the Dolphins aren't built to play catch-up with rookie Ryan Tannehill at quarterback. Tannehill is coming off his worst performance, going 23-for-39, for 217 yards and three interceptions in a 37-3 home loss to the Titans. Don't expect a big rebound on the road outdoors in Buffalo, especially with temperatures to be near freezing during the game. Do expect the Bills put this one away late.
