By Shae Hadden|BioThere are times when losing one’s ‘zip’ could spell disaster—at the end of a race or the beginning of a romantic evening, for instance. And there are other times when losing it could be advantageous—as when one has pushed too far for too long and when a much-needed rest is in order. For me, the latter is the case.
My body feels ‘old and tired’ these days—as if I’ve lost my zip somewhere—simply because it isn’t working well. I’m operating at less than 50% and the internal conversation I’m having with myself is that everything is OK and this will pass, so just ignore my illness, keep on working, and get on with my life.
A close friend reminded me that my perspective sounds like that of a child…and anything I do from that perspective will only serve to keep me in that state of ‘lost zip’. So today, on Canada’s National Birthday, I am choosing to grow up and act my age: I’m committing myself to fully disengaging from my commitments to rest and recover.
Perhaps the best gift we can give ourselves is to take care of our health…at any age.
