
It is difficult to answer this kind of question not knowing the person and his history. There are many reasons for this kind of behavior and not all are related to age or dementia.
An evaluation of his health, activity status, nutrition and medications [if any] would be my suggestion.

My 81 year old father is basically in good health and active. In the last few weeks, he has failed to recognize a few people who are regulars in his life (my daughter and an employee of mine). Is this normal aging or the beginning of some kind of dementia?
