Is there any first aid to give for an enlarged stoma due to the ileostomy from the removal of the large colon?

Posted by Lois Baldridge-Roseberry

my husband's stoma has doubled in size and the waste collecting in his pouch has the appearance of fibrous, chunky, black ground up twigs/plastic, all he ate today was fresh spagetti, sauce with some Parmesan cheese, coke to drink and a slice of canned corned beef. He woke up complaining of nausea and wanted something to settle his stomach so I gave him some Maalox. I'm a bit scared at the swollen appearence to the stoma, earlier today it looked the normal size but now it is much bigger. Is this an emergency situation or can I just call the MD's office as soon as they open?
