An article published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine says that frequent sex can lower blood pressurereduce the risk of some cancers and improve longevity. Researchers reviewed studies of health and sex from the past several decades and revealed the following 10 benefits of sex:

  1. Long Life. In North Carolinaresearchers found women who enjoyed sex lived longer. Studies in the U.S. and the U.K. found that men who had sex twice a week lived longer than those who had sex less than once a month.
  2. Healthy Heart. According to a British studythose who participate at least twice a week were less likely to have heart attacks or fatal coronary eventswhile those who had sex less than once a month were twice as likely to.
  3. Lower Blood Pressure. Frequent sex is linked with lower diastolic blood pressureand those who are sexually active have less dramatic blood pressure spikes when under stress.
  4. Lower Risk of Breast Cancer. Women who have infrequent sex or who are sexually inactive are three times more at risk than sexually active women.
  5. Lower Risk of Prostate Cancer. A Minnesota study found that men who have had intercourse more than 3,000 times in their life reduce their risk by 50%.
  6. Pain Relief. Lower back pain and migraines can be relieved.
  7. Slimmer Body. People who engage frequently in sex are slimmer. This may be because sex uses up 50-60 calories (so 3 times a week for a month would burn the same calories as jogging seven miles).
  8. Better Testosterone Levels. Men with erectile problemswhen combining treatment with frequent sexhave greater increases in testosterone.
  9. Fewer Symptoms of Menopause. Sex can help regulate hormone levels and reduce the number of hot flashes.
  10. Healthier Semen. Frequent sex leads to a higher sperm counthigher volume of semenand higher percentage of healthy sperm.
