Facial Rejuvenation Using Botox

Posted Oct 30 2013 4:14am
Botox treatment is mainly provided for facial rejuvenation. With these botox injections, the appearance of crow’s feet, lines, creases and wrinkles are temporarily reduced. Those undergoing the treatment will benefit from a more youthful facial appearance. In this treatment, the nerve impulses are paralyzed and the muscles due to which wrinkles are caused become relaxed and are flattened. An overall smoother appearance is given to the face and patients start looking more fresh. It has been shown by studies that with Botox, muscle contractions in the eye and neck areas, excessive sweating and migraine headaches are relieved.

Botox treatment is extremely effective for those patients who have the following aesthetic concerns:

- Wrinkles
- Crow's feet
- Forehead furrows
- Peri-oral lines
- Nasolabial folds
- Drooping brows
- Early signs of aging
- Vertical lip lines

How Is The Treatment Performed?

This is an outpatient procedure. Botox is injected by the surgeon into those specific muscles wherein patients want the reduction of wrinkles, creases and lines. The procedure lasts for only a few minutes. There is no need of anesthesia. Only a mild discomfort is felt during the injections. Usually, the effects would last for around 3 - 6 months. It has been reported by patients that the wrinkles and lines are less visible when the treatment is taken. However, in certain cases, reappearance of wrinkles is seen.

Recovery from the Procedure

Generally, patients start feeling fine immediately after the procedure. Surgeons advise patients as not to lie down for some hours after the procedure. The treated area should not be rubbed or massaged for 10-12 hours.  Temporary bruising is a very common side effect and usually, this would disappear within 48 hours. Eyelid drooping is another side effect which commonly happens during the recovery period. However, within three weeks it disappears.

Beware of the Risks

Since the Botox facial rejuvenation procedure is a non-surgical one, fewer complications are seen in comparison to other procedures. However, just like other procedures this also involves certain risks.  If the Botox injections are placed incorrectly, then the muscles in inappropriate areas would be relaxed. A droopy eye can be caused if the injection is incorrectly placed.  The technique and site choice are very critical for getting a beautiful and natural look. If any side effects are caused due to the injections being placed incorrectly, then they disappear in around 6 months. This is because the treatment is a temporary one. When considering facial rejuvenation using Botox, make sure to obtain this treatment from a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon providing the service at a reputable plastic surgery facility.
