can mental dementia be caused by being under anesthesia in the elderly

my mom of age 80 just under went a 3 hour surgery to have 3 vertebrea fused and is now disoriented and getting everything all mixed up. Is there anything that can be given to reverse the dementia they are calling sundowners?
