What about sober alcoholics with ADHD? It seems there is a reluctance to take any meds, yet the problems of inattention persist.

Posted by caban

I think I used to use alcohol to help me focus, which didn't work very well. A lot of alcoholics have dopamine issues, which is connected with ADHD, yet there seems to be a widespread belief among recovered alcoholics that taking stimulant medications is just another way of getting high. I have both adult and child diagnoses of ADHD, but am reluctant to take meds again lest it interfere with my sobriety. Yet I am feeling the way I have felt much of my life without meds -- inattentive, etc. Like my life is slipping away.

Is there any input on this?

Thank you.
