Three steps forward, no steps back... at least this week.

Posted Feb 20 2009 7:24pm
OK, I am knocking on wood right now just for putting such a thought down on paper! It does seem like Luke really has had a week without setbacks. He is focused, he is calm (more often anyhow), he is HAPPY!

I had my parent-teacher conference with his teacher yesterday afternoon. She told me he is doing his work and about 60% of the time he is doing it WITHOUT supervision. I am ecstatic! At the beginning of he school year, just 5 months ago, he was doing probably only 10% of the work and he need constant supervision. That is such a drastic difference I am wondering if I misunderstood. I hope not. Plus, she had him in the "at risk" category for writing and reading. Yesterday she was able to note that he is on grade level for reading and no longer at risk. That is awesome! I will admit he pretty much got there through the partnership between his teacher and I -- he was on grade level in reading before he started the Concerta and before meds were working for him. However, he was not on task at all and was not completing his work at all before ADHDmeds. And, he is on grade level or above in 80+% of the math categories, he is only behind in geometry which has to do with his poor writing skills -- he is my math kid (Emma got all "A"s on her last report card except a B in math).

The improvement in staying on task and his reading skills are a giant step forward. And no steps back to report on this week. Way to go Luke! (I am still knocking on my desk.)
