I recently read a book entitled The ADD/ADHD Checklist written by Sandra Rief, M.A. It was quite informative and I can recommend it highly. The one thing I took away from the book was her list of "positive traits of ADHD." We're all familiar with the negative behaviors associated with ADD & ADHD. So, it was nice to read the positive side of the disorder for a change. Below is a partial list that can be found in the book.
- Energetic
- Spontaneous
- Creative
- Persistent
- Innovative
- Imaginative
- Warm-hearted
- Compassionate
- Forgiving
- Inquisitive
- Sensitive to others needs
- Resourceful
- Humorous
- Good at improvising
- Inventive
- Observant
- Caring
So, the next time you're aggravated and discouraged at dealing with your ADHD'er, just think of the positive!
