Not testing for swine flu, go figure.

Posted Jun 05 2009 5:07pm

One of my more light hearted posts... NOT

Sore throat, coughing, fever, chills
there is no shot, there aint no pills
it's swine flu season but don't you tell
feigning ignorance means all is well

So don't you worry don't you fret
if you haven't gotten sick just yet
it's coming soon to a friend near you
that un-reportable sweet swine flu
and there aint a damn thing we can do

So as I posted before, my immune system has been low. Well somewhere, most likely the pharmacy where the scary chick behind me was sneezing all over everyone, I picked up the swine flu!

How do I know it's the swine flu? Well first off lets look at the symptoms...
fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Yep got 'em.
Next, how do I know it's not just the usual flu?

Because flu season is well over folks! It's June for God sakes, no one gets the freakin flu in June.

But most importantly, it spread FAST. I have a couple people quarantined in my house now that happened to pop in at the wrong time. My poor husband is sick as well.

Now heres the ringer. I contacted my doctor and asked if it was swine flu. He said, "it sounds like swine flu all right, but we are under regulations by the State of California to NOT TEST FOR IT!" (all caps, mine)

Okay, so here's what I think. If they actually tested for it, they would have to call a level 6 Pandemic.

That would interfere with the economy, travel industry... it could get messy.

Plus, there is nothing they can do anyway.
I get it.
So fine don't test for it, but don't bullshit everyone with the select few "reported" cases. What's that about? Why not just tell everyone, "Were not testing you for the swine flu because it's worthless. So when you get it, drink lots of fluids, get plenty of rest, and take tylenol for the fever."
That I could handle.

I don't know, maybe it's just me but I'm feeling a bit bullshitted by my government right now.

The good news? Cody was here when I first got symptomatic... he is just fine. I guess if your over 6 foot, in your 20s, healthy and have ADHD your immune.

Excuse me there's an orange with my name on it and I'm turning the T.V. off. Bunch of liars on the news anyway.
It's a lovely spring day, think I'll just lay here in bed and enjoy the window view.
