It is extremely important to set up a savings accounts for emergencies. Since adults with ADD are more prone to take risks, ( starting a new business, going down the double black diamond ski slope, working as an artist or musician where you do not have a steady pay check), you will need to have savings to cover for the times when you need money.  Most financial experts say that you should have 3 to 6 months worth of household expenses in a savings account or certificate of deposit. There have been times in my life where I did not have a proper savings account for emergencies and I have had to ask loved ones for help. This can increase anxiety and emotional distress, not only in initially asking for the money, but also with dealing with loved ones in the future until you pay back the money. A good rule of thumb for starting these accounts is to take 5% of your paycheck and putting it directly in to a savings accounts. A lot of employers will let you direct deposit the funds into your savings account so that you will not use it for everyday expenses. Some people find it useful to open their savings account at a different bank so that they will be less likely to use it.
