Glutamine is an amino acid that is responsible for memory and concentration, a typical ADD’er is deficient and will show a lack of this in their system. Taking glutamine has been helpful in improving ADD/ ADHD symptoms in many people.
So how do we get glutamine into our bodies? They are found in protein, so eating a low protein diet is not the answer, as I have learned. I need protein in my daily food planning, it really impacts me. A lack of protein can hurt our concentration, focus and can impact sleeping patterns as well. Amino acids can be taken as a vitamin supplement and are also found in high protein food like beef, chicken, fish, nuts, avocado, eggs & dairy. I’ve posted previously about a protein powder I use in the morning as part of a fruit smoothie, it’s called Dream Protein and is hormone free and does not have any added sugar or sweeteners which is important when choosing the right product.
Don’t try and turn your dietary world upside down at first, try adding protein at only one point during your day to start, if you think you are deficient. Maybe choose that point during your work or school day when you notice you feel weak or are tiring. As I learned, once you start adding protein at specific times of the day and learn how it fuels your body and mind……you will notice a big difference in your energy, concentration and mood.
A protein infused fruit smoothie is a great way to start your day
