Finding Purpose In Whatever We Do

Posted Aug 04 2008 7:15am

Let’s start today off with a bit of clarity and transparency. I don’t want to sit here and think about all the different ways I might start blogging again. All I know is that it’s been longer than I would like, and I have actually spent quite a bit of time wondering if and when (and even how) I’ll get going again…

It’s been a few weeks since I have been active, and it hasn’t been for a lack of interest or lack of things to say.

So, what then?

I could come up with a ton of excuses or explanations - depending upon how you want to look at it, but the bottom line is that I have been following some of my own advice (for a change).

That advice: Take time when you need it - especially if you or someone you love is affected by ADHD or any other alleged attention problem or learning disability.

Just what is that supposed to mean?

Since attending the ADDA conference (and a family wedding), I have felt incredibly overwhelmed with having been gone for two weeks. I have responsibilities to tend to, and mounting pressure (from myself nonetheless), all while giving myself a hard time for not getting it done.

In the days to follow, I hope to share what has been somewhat of a philosophical journey about what ADHD is, and what it means when we find out someone has it (or even if it is ourself).

Some of things that come to mind:

  • Overwhelm
  • Success (and how we view it)
  • Procrastination
  • Getting it done
  • Taking stock and reflecting on it
  • Slowing down (when to do it, and when it’s okay)
  • Taking action (when action needs taking).
  • And so much more…

Even as I make this list, I wonder how I can share this and what would be helpful.  But in the efforts of getting going, and share some insight - I’ll leave you with this:

Setting up habits take time.  This blog post is my effort of putting one foot in front of the other so I can regain the momentum I once had.
