Clay Shirky On The Dissemination of Information: Think Medical If You Live In Possum Hollow Or Dexter The power of the internet using communication through social media, blogging, and twitter is speeding the availability of information dramatically, with the same larger social impact, even in medical practice, as the invention of the printing press. I sent out a previous Institutions vs Collaboration Shirky video post [20 min] in early 2010 addressing the context of psych diagnosis and labeling, and the need for evolution of thinking to help those coming into the office. Old labels just aren’t working because many don’t think in a participatory way with patients – and think the psych label, no matter how ill informed and superficial, will take care of the complexity of psychiatric medical interventions.
