The positive side of things are that biofeedback does work very well, but the reality is that the software can only guide the body in relaxing tense muscles and negative thought patterns stored in the body. Biofeedback is dependant on the clients ability to identify the stressors with the help of the device, but requires the conscious commitment on the part of the client to use that information to make changes in his or her life that will reduce the stress being stored by the body. Return visits to the biofeedback practitioner will continue to imprint the origional memory of relaxation and detoxification within the body-mind..
Being aware of the areas of stress is key to the ability of the body-mind to return to homeostasis. Unfortunately, because western society has been programed to believe that taking a pill will relieve the pain without any effort from the patient has surrendered the resposibility of healing over to the medication and the doctor.
The goal of biofeedback is to return that conscious responsibilty of health back to the client. Unfortunately, the biofeedback practitioners effectiveness depends on their ability to adequitely communicate this to the client.
My advice, being a biofeedback therapist, is to find another practitioner because the technology does work, very well. But remember, it is not a pill, it is a lifestyle change and a return to personal responsibility. Tom - Orcas Island, Wa.

Biofeedback and Its Many Benefits
Posted by Nirmala N.
Biofeedback, an alternative-medicine method that involves mind over body techniques, is gaining national attention for its many health benefits, which include mitigating common disorders like migraines, epilepsy, diabetes, high blood pressure, and incontinence. Developed in the 1940s, it seems like something straight out of a futuristic film, but hundreds of thousands swear by it. Patients wear sensors over their head that enable them to “hear” and “see” bodily functions that include pulse, body temperature, and muscle strain. If you hear beeps or see lines on the monitor, this indicates what is occurring in your body. The point is that after a while, you learn to actually control the beeps and squiggles by mere will, which means that simply by being conscious of them, you can lower blood pressure, stimulate brain activity, decrease muscle tension, or control your sweat glands and heart rate, etc. It’s quite popular for controlling migraines, and research shows that a combo of medication and biofeedback is more effective for migraines than either of these therapies by themselves.
